Aswan International Sculpture Symposium

 

The Cultural Development Fund (CDF) – Egyptian Ministry of Culture is holding its twenty-ninth session of  this year from January 14 to February 22, 2025 for 40 days.
Artists can participate in this session through three workshops:

Main Workshop: -
The Supreme Committee selects Egyptian and Foreign artists with experience in carving on large granite stones in the basic workshop, and this workshop takes the whole duration of the symposium. The foreigner artist will get 125,000 pounds (one hundred and twenty five thousand pounds) as a pocket money  including taxes, and the Egyptian artist 65,000 pounds (sixty-five thousand pounds) including taxes.
Youth Workshop:-
A workshop for Young Egyptian sculptors will be held from January 31st, until February 23rd 2025, The artist will get 10,000 pounds (ten thousand pounds) as a pocket money including taxes.
Special Workshop:-
The Supreme Committee may approve the participation of Egyptian or foreign artists in the special workshop, including those who did not apply or applied but were not selected among the participants in the previous two sections. The artist will receive the same benefits as those in the Youth Workshop, except for travel tickets, for a participation fee of $1,500 (or its equivalent). The duration of the independent workshop will match that of the Youth Workshop.
General Conditions:

  • The artist residing in Egypt must send the CV and pictures of his previous works, and a three-dimensional model of the work in the Symposium.
  • The foreign artist shall display his model image from four different scenes in high quality, and the model of the work shall be displayed upon arrival in Aswan.
  • The selected artists shall write a participation form including their signature on the participation conditions, which shall be sent in the regulations.
  • The Cultural Development Fund have all copy rights and actions alone on all works executed in the symposium.

The Cultural Development Fund shall be committed to the following:-

  •  Flight ticket for the foreign artist from the capital of the country to Aswan and return, in addition to hosting and receiving from Aswan Airport and internal transfers.
  •  Flight ticket for the Egyptian artist in addition the internal transfers.
  •  Train ticket for the artists participating in the Youth workshop (from Cairo to Aswan and return).
  • Full board accommodation in Basma hotel for all artists.
  •  Organizing cultural acceleration for some tourist attractions within the Arab Republic of Egypt.
  • Providing the hand and electrical tools necessary for the artists' work, and the industry supplies of stand clothes, glasses, and masks as required by the work on site, The artist must keep the items during the participation period, and return any used or unused items to the symposium administration after he finished his work.

The equipment that the participants receive:
- Main artist (20 discs 9 inch + 15 discs 5 inch+ grinder 9 inch for the assistant - electrical joint device and electrical wire)
- Workshop artists (10 discs 9 inch - 10 discs 5 inch - grinder 9 inch for the assistant - electrical joint device and electrical wire)
In addition to a bag for all the main artists and the workshop
(5 glasses - 5 gloves - 5 masks with a filter - a headset)
 Providing sources of electricity and water supply and the headquarters of each artist's work.
 The Culture Development Fund (CDF) will not responsible for any other costs or services, nor is it responsible for any cost related to accompanying the participating artists.
Note:
 
All visas issued from the airport upon entry are valid for 30 days only, so foreign artists must obtain entry into Egyptian embassy from an authorized visa each in their country to allocate a validity period for 50 days, as the Culture Development Fund (CDF) is not responsible for any costs or requirements related to the artist's period of residence during his stay in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Culture Development Fund (CDF) will send a letter to the Egyptian embassies to facilitate the visa as soon as possible.
